What is a Student Support Specialist?
A student support specialist is a Global Campus staff member dedicated to supporting the success of online students. Support specialists serve as both a cheerleader and a personal guide, helping students connect with academic and support resources offered by the University of Arkansas. They proactively reach out to offer encouragement, helpful resources, and guidance whenever a student may benefit from additional support. As someone outside of a student’s academic program, a student support specialist provides a supportive space to learn about available services, get connected to resources, and stay on track toward academic goals.

Students admitted to an online undergraduate program. Students will have the opportunity to schedule an appointment with their student support specialist upon admission for assistance in orientation.
The U of A Student Success programs are available to both campus and online students. Generally online students can access student success services online or through virtual appointments. You can access Student Success services or set up a meeting with your student support specialist to discuss how to connect with the services to best suit your needs.
No. All of these services are online. Meetings with your student support specialist can be done outside of regular 8am to 5pm office hours.
There is no additional cost. The cost access to the academic student support specialist and for these academic services is covered in your tuition & fees.

Students are not required to meet with a student support specialist.
Students are required to meet with their adviser. Student support specialists will not advise you on your course enrollments or petitions and they cannot enroll you in courses. Student support specialist are in contact with the academic advisers for online students to provide a quality level of service.
